Safety Information
Treads CC is referred to here by "We", "Us" or "Our". Cycling on public roads carries risks and it is important that every rider understands their responsibilities for safety, conduct and compliance. By signing up for and attending a ride with us, you agree to the following safety information.
Risk
- Cycling on public roads involves hazards, including but not limited to: collisions with vehicles, other cyclists, pedestrians, animals or fixed objects; changes in road or weather conditions; mechanical failures; and the actions of other road users.
- By joining a ride, you accept that participation is entirely at your own risk. Treads CC, its ride organisers, leaders or other members are not liable for any injury, loss, damage or expense sustained before, during or after a club ride.
Insurance
- We do not provide specific insurance for riders or for our rides.
- It is your responsibility to obtain your own insurance to cover personal injury, third-party liability and damage to your bike or equipment. We cannot recommend a specific insurer due to individual circumstances, but there are several cycling-specific insurers available.
Rider Responsibility
- All participants must be 16 years of age or older at the time of the ride (under 16's need written permission).
- You must be in good health, fit to ride and confident handling your bicycle in a group on public roads. If you have any medical conditions, you can discreetly let us know so we are better informed in a medical emergency.
- You must ensure your bicycle is roadworthy and properly maintained prior to each ride. Each rider is responsible for their own repairs and for making their own way home if they cannot continue.
- Riders should carry personal ID, phone and emergency contact details.
- Riders must not participate under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Mandatory Equipment
- Helmets are compulsory. No helmet, no ride! You will not be permitted to ride with us without one.
- We recommend appropriate cycling clothing.
- It is advisable to download the ride route and have this displayed on your bike computer.
- Front and rear lights are strongly advised if in low-light or poor weather conditions.
- Riders should carry the following essentials: spare inner tube(s), tyre levers, an inflation tool/device, water bottles and basic nutrition depending on your needs.
Road Traffic Laws
- All riders must comply with The Highway Code and The Countryside Code at all times. This includes, but is not limited to: stopping at red lights, respecting priority at junctions, signalling clearly and keeping our countryside clean; no littering.
- Dangerous or unlawful behaviour such as riding on pavements, riding aggressively or wearing headphones while riding will not be tolerated.
- Respect your fellow riders and other road users. Courtesy and consideration are expected at all times.
Ride Leadership
- Some rides may have a designated ride leader, but leaders are not responsible for your personal safety. Their role is to guide the route and maintain group cohesion.
- Riders must take personal responsibility for following the route, maintaining safe conduct and making their own decisions on the road.
- The ride leader (or club) reserves the right to cancel, shorten or alter the ride if conditions are unsafe.
